It is up to eight times more efficient than traditional insulation and 10 times thinner and is a clean, green insulation nanotechnology.
Aerogel is more than 90 per cent air, making it an effective insulator with the lowest thermal conductivity of any solid.
US-based company Aspen Aerogels has since advanced the material into a strong, flexible and lightweight product which can be fitted to a variety of applications.
Aspen Aerogels allow for retrofitting of existing infrastructure and cover a temperature range from -270°C to +650°C. It is 100 per cent recyclable and has low embodied carbon.
Aspen Aerogels do not degrade with age and are not damaged by water.
